Today, I'll Walk By Faith

Without Faith It is Impossible To Please God - Just Released!

You may have a number of positive things going for you. Such things as money, titles, property, degrees, power, honors; you may speak several languages, mastered deep theological truths, be a great speaker and motivator, teacher, and sought out for advice, etc. However, here is the top and bottom line truth: "But without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please Him, for he who comes to Him must BELIEVE that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6). "We walk by FAITH and not by sight" (2 Corinthians 4:7). Faith is the expression of the integrity that closes the GAP between what we SAY we believe and what we actually DO.

Voters, Wakeup

Just Released!

Voting is one of the basic freedoms our Constitution gives us as citizens in the USA. Because of the seriousness of choosing our nations leaders, it is essential that we educate ourselves relative to some basic truths and realities related to voting. This book is a wake up call for voters to take seriously this freedom and blessing. In 13 chapters, subjects ranger from "Rating Your Voting Concerns" to "22 Things I don't Consent to", the author set forth a positive case to take voting seriously. Regardless of your party of candidate, this book will help and encourage you. The author is issuing a wake up call.

The 409 Forgiveness Rule

Just Released!

FORGIVENESS! This is what we all need and want from time to time and as quickly as possible. However, depending on the offense, we are slow and reluctant to extend it to others. The title of this book, as well as the content, is based on Jesus' reply to Peter when the apostle asked how often should you forgive a person (Matthew 18:21-35). If we don't forgive others, our heavenly Father will not forgive is (Matthew 6:14, 15). Jesus continued that we must forgive seventy times seven: 70x7= 490. Thus the title. This book covers every aspect of forgiveness. It is perfect for private reading and study as well as class study.

Beyond Sunday

Living Christianity Everyday

The sphere of our love for God is without limits; it transcends the hour or two each Sunday many Christians give to God in fulfillment of the greatest commandment. This book is a wakeup call to remind us that the Christianity revealed in the Bible is about more than Sunday morning church attendance. It is a total way of life: 24-7-365 days each year. This is not an attempt to minimize the essentialness of attending church services; especially on Sunday. In fact it is my hope that it will encourage faithful attendance in all the church services and Bible classes. But remember Christianity is lived BEYOND SUNDAY.

winningthebattlebookcover smANNOUNCEMENT: This is a supplemental study to my new book, “Winning The Battle Between The Heart And Mind.” This is an 11 lesson study with 52 weekly exercises for application. Can you name one thing God has asked us to DO and BE that doesn’t relate to the heart?

ARE YOU FOLLOWING CHRIST WITH ALL YOUR HEART?  -J.J. Turner, Ph.D.

INTRODUCTION:

Have you ever heard this song?

YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART

Your gotta have heart

All you really need is heart

When the odds are saying you’ll never win

That’s when the grin should start

 . . . . . . .

You’ve gotta have heart

Miles and miles of heart

Oh, it’s fine to be a genius, of course

But keep that old horse before the cart

First, you gotta have heart

. . . . . . . .

But we’re laughin’

‘Cause we’ve got heart

We’ve got heart

We’ve got heart

Have you ever sung this song?

IS THY HEART RIGHT WITH GOD?

Have thine affections been nailed to the cross

Is thy heart right with God?

Dost thou count all things for Jesus but loss?

Is thy heart right with God?

Is thy heart right with God,

Washed in the crimson flood,

Cleansed and made holy

Humble and lowly,

Right in the sight of God (of God)?

The three verses out of the late singer, composer and actress Peggy Lee’s song, You Gotta have Heart, while intended for any challenge we face in life, has an application to the spiritual heart.

E.A. Hoffman’s lyrics, Is Thy Heart Right With God? asks an eternally important question.

HOW TO DEVELOP THE WRITING HABIT J.J. Turner, Ph.D. Author of How to Drop Your Excuses and Start Writing Today (amazon.com) As a writer, editor, publisher, and teacher of writing I am continually asked “How do you start writing?” Recently at a university book display a publisher “stuck a camera” in my face and asked me to share my advice on how to become a writer. When I quickly answered, “By writing one word at a time”, those gathered around the camera person, along with the camera person, either smiled or had a strange look on their faces. The camera person tried to encourage me to say more but I continued to say, “All writing begins with one word. Period!”      Here’s a rocket science observation. You can’t write the second or third word until you have written the first word. How amazing is this revelation! Try it and you’ll see I am right.      Hundreds of books, writer seminars and retreats, along with writing teachers have created a mystic or aura around what it takes to be a writer. Some of the advice and suggestions are on target and some is designed to promote and sell. You are discouraged when you hear about all the rules of grammar, syntax, spelling, word choices, etc. If you are interested in writing poetry you are given a list of dozens of acceptable poetry styles you need to master. No, I’m not opposed in pursuing academic knowledge about writing. My interest is in helping people start where it all starts after they’ve completed all the writing courses—writing one word. 12 KEYS TO DEVELOPING THE WRITING HABIT Here are 12 simple and basic keys I have discovered which help develop the writing habit. Don’t let the simplistic nature of these keys fool you. Give…

  • INTRODUCTION: Have you ever thought of effective prayer as actually being composed of a quartet? A quartet is made up of four distinct persons. Each participant has a specific voice part to contribute to making harmony. Traditionally a quartet is composed of an Alto, Tenor, Bass, and Soprano. In the traditional Gospel Quartets and Barbershop Quartets, there is a lead singer. Because, as a rule, the human voice has a limited range, the various voice types aren’t able to successfully sing outside of their range. In order to have perfect harmony, each member of the quartet has a specific part…

  •   J.J. Turner, Ph.D.   READ ANY GREAT BOOKS LATELY? [ ] Yes [ ] No   Years ago if I had written this article I would have titled it Christians Are Reader. My experiences now with some Christian, which include leaders and preachers, reveal a lack of reading. Talking to bookstore managers confirm that men aren’t buying books like they once did, and the books they are buying now are “fluff and puff”—shallow content. The good news is that women are buying more books, thus the rapid increase in the publishing of books designed for ladies.      Men aren’t…

  • DEFINITION:      Webster: “a religion that is considered or held to be false or unorthodox, or it members.”      Theological: “In the context of traditional doctrines and practices of biblical Christianity, a cult is a group that believes and practices beliefs that are contrary to the (1) Divinity, (2) eternal existence (3)incarnation, (4) virgin birth, (4) exclusive saviorhood, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Christ. Plus many other teachings and practices that contradict the Bible (e.g. 66 books). 21 CHARACTERISTICS OF A CULT:      A cult associated with “Christianity” may be identified, according to basic definitions, by one or more…

As I travel around the brotherhood I am asked more and more frequently, “Whatever happened to leadership training?” This question is relevant in light of the decline of leadership in the church; especially the training and equipping of men to serve as elders and deacons. I recently came across these phrases by an unknown author: “When the ship is sinking, it not the time to train the crew in abandon ship drills.” “When the last inning is played, it’s not time to call for a pinch hitter.” “When the sheep have been scattered, lost their way, or eaten by wolves, it is not time to ask for volunteers to be shepherds.” The best time to take out fire insurance is before there is a fire. The best time to learn how to swim is before you are going down for the third or last time. The best time to train competent leaders is before there is a crisis. Most congregations are in their present state because it is where past leadership decisions and actions have brought them. Where the church will be tomorrow and years from now depends on leadership training, decisions and actions of today. Why Aren’t We Training Leaders? Back to the question: Whatever happened to leadership training? Here are some of my answers to this vital question: 1. Some congregations have never engaged in a regular, curriculum based, and advanced training for all levels of church leadership. 2. Some congregations have failed, for whatever reason, to see the need for the ongoing training of leaders. They seem to be blinded to this need. 3. Some have given up the training of leaders because it didn’t accomplish what they thought it should accomplish. 4. Some gave up training future leaders because they didn’t have an “expert” or competent…

  • WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BIBLE READING

Why did God give us, and preserve for us, a written document called the Holy Bible? Was it so we would buy it and He would get a royalty? Was it for coffee table decoration? Did He give us the Bible to confuse us? The answer to these three questions is NO. Obviously God gave us the Bible to read, understand and apply to our lives. Since the German printer Johan Gutenberg invented the printing press with moveable type, and on which the Bible was the first book printed, the Bible has been a best seller. Millions of copies in…

  • WHATEVER HAPPENED TO HOLINESS?

Congruence (n) “1 the state or quality of being in agreement; correspondence; harmony.” Concurrence (n) “1 A happening together in time or place                              2 a combining to produce or bringing about something 3 Agreement; accord.”      Do you know what these two words have to do with Christianity? [ ] Yes [ ] No. The title of this lesson may have tipped you off. It has to do with our walk of holiness before God and others. They refer to the consistency God demands relative to what is outside in our behavior, being in harmony with what is inside. There…

  • WHATEVER HAPPENED TO OBEDIENCE?

One of the first songs I learned after becoming a Christian was Trust and Obey: When we walk with the Lord In the light of His word What a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will, He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey for there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey                                                                                                            (J.H. Sammis & D.B.Towner). The two words—trust and obey—aren’t very popular in our day; especially obey. Like so many other virtues in our society and churches, the…

  • WHATEVER HAPPENED TO FAMILY?

Some of us remember these statements: “The family that prays together stays together.” “The family is the backbone of the nation.” “The community is a reflection of the families who live in them.” When you hear the word FAMILY what comes to mind? Sadly, when some hear family in cause’s painful memories; others are filled with happy memories. From the first family—Adam and Eve—until the most recent family, families have faced challenges. Some families have grown stronger and closer together, while others have deteriorated.      Whatever happened to family?      “There is no such thing as society: there are individual…
